Building Community Resilience In Covid-19 Times (From the Sanctuary Desk)

April 13, 2020 Wild Earth

Here on the sanctuary, times are beautiful and they are hard. In many ways, life has gone on. We have added new gardens to build our community food security. We have created a new field for the pigs, planted flower bulbs, and added blueberries and raspberries to our gardens. We have sheltered in. We have cultivated a greater appreciation for our land, which occupies our time in a productive way, and brings us nourishment and joy. We are excited to see nature bouncing back as humans slow down. We have expanded our wild food repertoire, harvesting spring onions, chickweed, nettles, violets, dandelions, redbud blossoms, and wild ginger from the fields and forests that surround us.

But the Covid-19 shutdown has hit us hard. We've had to cancel our weekly volunteer programming. Our classes and educational tours, which would normally be starting next month, are now in question. Our B&B has been put on the back burner. We rely heavily on our volunteers to keep the project running as well as our tours and events, and hosting visitors for financial security.

To make matters worse, several of our ducks and our chickens have suddenly fallen gravely ill, and all the dogs and cats needed their spring tick meds. We've already spent more than $1,100 this month on veterinary bills and medications, with more to come, unfortunately.

It can be hard for us to ask for your help, but we have to admit that we really need it and you. We need our community right now.

Please help us during this difficult time with a GoFundMe donation. Or, if you prefer, hold a Facebook Fundraiser for us! Donations can also be sent via PayPal and gifts can be chosen from our Wish List.

Thank you for being an integral member of the Wild Earth community and thank you for your support,

For the Animals,

Heather Patrick
Co-founder
